Our Academic Enrichment Program is the best!

Using the USTA ACE Curriculum and boasting an adult to student ratio of 1 to 1, our One Love Kids are on the road to success!

The One Love Academic Enrichment program has won TWO Educational Merit awards from the USTA!

USTA NC Educational Merit Award 2018

USTA SOUTHERN Educational Merit Award 2018

Note:  USTA NC is the State of North Carolina.
USTA Southern is a 9-state region including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee.

One Love is honored to receive two USTA 2018 Educational Merit Awards from both the USTA NC and USTA Southern (9 state region) for excellence in educational programming.  The One Love Academic Enrichment program led by veteran educator, Cindy Ducharme, uses the USTA ACE Curriculum and focuses on the three "R's".  Outside the classroom, One Love educates kids about Wilmington tennis history (Althea Gibson, Dr. Hubert Eaton and Arthur Ashe are just a few of the names that are included).  One Love has over 50 volunteers that deserve credit for these awards due to their commitment to the kids they mentor on a 1:1 basis.

One Love has Academic Enrichment at three sites:

  • Brigade Boys & Girls Club - Mondays 3:30pm-4:30pm

  • MLK Center - Tuesdays 4:00pm-5:00pm

  • Maides Park - Wednesdays 3:30pm-4:30pm

  • coming soon: 1406 Orange Street

The 1406 Orange Street Academic Enrichment Center will be located inside the former living quarters of Althea Gibson, world champion who integrated both tennis and golf.  1406 Orange Street was the home of Dr. Hubert and Celeste Eaton, who took Althea Gibson in as she trained in tennis and finished high school at Williston Senior High.  It will be inspirational for kids to learn in the same room where she lived and studied.
